History

The SR20  was unveiled in 1994. The aircraft first flew in March 1995… with FAA certification granted on 23 October 1998. At the time of the airplane’s release, the general aviation industry was struggling. The SR20 was one of the first of its kind to earn FAA Part 23 certification in several years. SR20’s made from 1999 to 2003 were equipped with traditional analogue instruments and a 10″ MFD. In 2003, Cirrus made PFD’s standard on the SR20 and faster SR22, pioneering the use of glass cockpits in the light aircraft aviation industry. On 1 June 2004, the SR20 became the first aircraft to achieve the new EASA certificate for aircraft imported into the European Union. The SR22, certified in November 2000, is a more powerful version of the earlier SR20.

Design

The Cirrus SR22 is a single-engine four or, five seat composite aircraft . It is a low-wing cantilever monoplane, of composite construction. Featuring fixed tricycle landing gear with a castering nose wheel. It also features steering via differential braking on the main wheels. The cabin is accessed through doors on either side of the fuselage.The SR-series remains the only airplane in its class to include side stick flight controls that combine aspects of a traditional yoke handle. The SR22 are equipped with the Cirrus Air-frame Parachute System (CAPS). In February 2003, Cirrus began offering SR22’s with the Avidyne Entegra PFD.

Cirrus introduced the SR22 Turbo in 2006. The engine has low-compression pistons, to allow the engine to run on lower octane fuel. This model also has a decreased useful load of 477 kg and reduced range of 1,046 nmi… as well as a Hartzell, three blade lightweight composite prop.The SR22 Turbo has a certified ceiling of 25,000 feet, a maximum cruise speed of 391 km/h, and a top speed of 406 km/h.
