History
In 1993, Bell began the development of a new light Aircraft to replaces its Model 206 series. The program resulted in the 407, a development of Bell’s LongRanger. Bell modified a 206L-3 LongRanger to serve as a 407 demonstrator. The demonstrator used hardware for the 407… and added moulded fairings for wider fuselage representation. The demonstrator was first flown in April 1994. The first 407 prototype accomplished its maiden flight in June 1995. The second prototype followed in July 1995. The first production 407 flew in November 1995. TCAA granted certification for the 407 on February 9 1996 and the FAA followed shortly after on February 23 1996.
Design
The Bell 407 features a four blade main rotor. In addition, the blades and hub use composite construction without life limits. Hence this provides better performance and a more comfortable ride. The 407’s fuselage is 8 inches wider… therefore increasing internal cabin space. Additionally included are 35% larger main cabin windows. Not only is the Rolls-Royce/Allison 250-C47 turboshaft engine powerful.. but also allows an increase in Maximum Take-off Weight. Hence it improves performance at hotter temperatures and higher altitudes. The air-frame is similar to the LongRanger. Also included is a carbon fibre composite tail boom. The helicopter has standard seating for two crew and five cabin seats.
Bell 407 – 2007
The Bell 407 is a civil utility helicopter. Moreover it combines reliability, speed and performance… coupled with manoeuvrability. The aircraft also includes a cabin configuration for an array of missions and payloads. The engine delivers not only exceptional performance… but also has the ability to cruise at 140 259 km/hr. The Bell 407 also provides a quiet and smooth ride in most weather conditions.
