History

The Cessna Citation III is an American business jet with a range of 4,350 km. It is produced by Cessna and part of the Citation Family. Announced in October 1976 at the NBAA convention, it made its maiden flight on May 30, 1979. Certification was granted on April 30, 1982. Furthermore it also had the longest range…  and fastest cruise speed of any mid-sized jet. Moreover… it continued in production for 9 years until 1992.

In the late 1990’s… Cessna wanted to fill a gap in its midsize jet line up. The vision… a design not only with greater cabin comfort, but also performance, utility and Citation reliability. The new design included a high aerodynamic lift wing for runway performance, and near transcontinental flight range. Hence the development of the Cessna 680 Sovereign. The Sovereign is a 5900 km range business jet and Introduced at the 1998 NBAA convention. It made its maiden flight in February 2002. In addition…certification was granted on June 2 2004.

Design

The 680 Sovereign has a longer cabin than the Citation. This includes a large, clean-sheet wing and also large trailing edge flaps. Hence the improvement of runway performance. It features a relatively high critical Mach number for efficient 824 km/h TAS cruise. Powered by: 2 × Pratt & Whitney Canada PW306D turbofans. Furthermore… it uses Honeywell glass cockpit avionics with four LCD screens. The cabin typically comprises double club seating for eight, plus a side facing seat. It accommodates up to 12, including two pilots. In fact…the Sovereign’s cabin provides ample space for a full refreshment centre. In addition, it features 100 cubic feet of baggage capacity.
