The R44 also features hydraulically assisted flight controls as well as adjustable pedals . It’s first flight was on 31 March 1990. It received FAA certification in December 1992 and in January 2000, Robinson introduced the Raven. Although known for its reliability, comfort and efficiency… the R44 is also the world’s best-selling general aviation helicopter. Not only have there been 5,805 deliveries from 2000–2017…  it is also the most produced GA aircraft of the 21st century.

Design

R44 Raven’s are high performance, reliable and easy to maintain helicopters. R44’s have a two-bladed rotor system, T-bar cyclic and streamlined instrument panels. Moreover it features crash worthy bladder fuel tanks. The R44’s aerodynamic fuselage optimises airspeed and fuel economy. It’s design with hydraulic controls end feedback forces thus providing responsive handling. Another feature of the R44 Raven is… a low tail-rotor tip speed, coupled with a muffler and large cambered tail… reducing flyover noise. Furthermore it features a… 540 Lycoming engine producing more power. This gives the Raven greater altitude performance,  more payload, and increased speed too.

Robinson R44 Raven I

The Raven’s equipped with a Lycoming O-545 carburetted engine. Even though the R44 Raven I offers high performance, it’s coupled with affordability too. Raven I features carburettor heat assist… enhancing safety as well as reducing pilot workload. It automatically adjusts carburettor heat in response to power changes. In addition, the R44 Raven can be further equipped with specific instruments and avionics for IFR pilots. Equally important.. this is also achieved at a fraction of the cost associated with larger helicopters.
